Growing Up Mummy!

I am a 31 year old women with 3 kids, Yet sometimes I question whether or not I am mentally stuck in my teens. Back then I was obsessed with Beverly Hills 90210 and New kids On The Block. Now ,more than 15 years later -my 'likes' have not yet matured.

My favourite show is MTV's The Hills. I am obsessed with Perez Hiltons celebrity Blog. One of my favourite movies is about a high school football team and I still to this day am harbouring a secret crush on Dawsons Creek's Pacey! I am totally gifted when it comes to knowing the names of every celebrity offspring, whether they be A B or C list ,but my knowledge of world figures [apart from who wore what at the oscars] is a little shady!

My idea of keeping up with current events is watching the latest episode of Jon and Kate plus 8 and when my girlfriend Ruth and I get together for coffee our conversations are centred around clothes, make up, calorie counting and which celebs are getting fat!!!

I have a theory about this though. I have been pregnant, breastfeeding and raising children since I was 24. Therefore once the whole 'nappy brain' thing kicked in,any chance of me progressing mentally-was stalled. My conversations were limited to discussions about which nappy brand I prefer, how long can a baby go without pooping before I'd consider them constipated. Not that I had very many adult conversations. I spent years saying the same thing over and over again-'Don"t put that in your mouth" 'No,we don't draw on walls', 'who put the whole damn roll of toilet paper in the toilet' 'please don't put mummys self-tanner in your hair','5am is too early to put your bob the builder dvd on'.

Perhaps I should set myself a little test! One whole week of watching nothing but Australian Story and National geographic.I will try to have educated conversations with friends about politics and religion. I will stop considering the opinions of Hamish and Andy to be 'gospel' and instead of reading my children books about 'Walter the farting dog', I will read them books about sustainable development.

Hmm this should be interesting, stay tuned.....................
